Listening to music with wires is so 2017! In 2018 we all will go wireless, and QCY is making some really good wireless EarBuds! But are these good enough to compete with the Apple AirPods?
Apple introduced the AirPods in 2017 and they were an instant hit, if you own an Apple iPhone. If you have Android, there are numerous other option, like the HBQ-i7 for exmaple. They look the same, but work on Android. Today we are going to look at the QCY Q29 Pro. They look a little different, but the sound quality is amazing!

Introduction & Specifications
I own 4 sets of wireless earbuds now, like the HBQ-i7 which I reviewed earlier this year. They are good, but the QCY is going to be better. I like the “free” feeling of not having to deal with wires. I had it aleady with my Bose QC35, but now again with th eearbuds. They are almost invisble to people. With the Bose people see that you are listen to music, but with the QCY Q29 Pro people can miss it very easily. Sometimes people are looking weird if I’m having a phone call, but I don’t care! I really like the wireless earbuds!

Unboxing
The box of the QCY Q29 Pro is very simple. It reminds me of the Xiaomi products I own, they had very simple boxes as well. I like it, simple and easy packaging. There is not something special in the box. WE can expect a charging cable, the QCY Q29 Pro and the battery box and that is all inside. There is a little extra paper with instruction on how to pair them both in stereo mode, which is really handy. My video on how to do that is below. Besides that are there some extra ear pieces (handy if you want to seel them) and a guide in English! Very handy to find all the features. More on that below!
Hardware & Design
The design is a little different and I had to get used to it. They are a little bit bigger then the HBQ-i7 or other pairs that I have. That is perfectly fine, but with the wireless earbuds you want them as small as possible. They look good and the sound is amazing, but I hoped they were a little bit smaller.
The material used to build the QCY Q29 Pro is plastic. I think that is the right choose in this kind of products. It has to feel comfortable and light weight. That is something QCY did perfect with the QCY Q29 Pro. The plastic design, the way they designed it and the weight are just right.
The Charging Case
The charging case is very handy and helps out a lot! I’ve used the HBQ-i7 and they had to be charged with a charging cable which was very unfriendly to use. Luckily there are cases available for the HBQ-i7 but the QCY Q29 Pro comes with a charging case. It works great, they only fit in one way so it is a dummy proof case. Even though it looks like a premium case, I wished the lid would open a little but further. It is not opening all the way and this might be a problem if you have bigger handes.
Do they fit?
Yes, they fit. But they are not super comfortable. They are a little bigger like I said before and they will go into your ear a little deeper then other models. For me that is not a problem, but I can imagine that some people migh find it less comfortable then for example the HBQ-i7.
As you can see they are a little bit bigger when they are in your ear. I don’t mind, but if you have smaller ears, the QCY Q29 Pro might not be the wireless earbuds for you.
How to connect?
The photo of the instruction maybe hard to see, so let me explain what is on the paper.
This method did not work for me, soe I will explain my methode as well.
Method 1:
The first thing you have to do is tear off the stickers on both earbuds. After that, plug them back into the case to activate them.
Now take them out of the case and turn them on by pressing the button for about 1 to 2 seconds.
Now double tap both buttons to force them into pairing mode. Just wait now till the auto pairing mode is over.
Now hold the button on the right earbud for 5 seconds. This trigger your smartphone into pairing mode.
Now you should find the “QCY-Q29 Pro” in Bluetooth settings and you can connect to it.
Method 2:
First thing is to remove the stickers on the earbuds and place them in the case to activate them.
Take them out and turn them both on. They should give you the welcome message and say they are connected.
Now turn them both off by holder the button for 5 seconds.
When they are off, press the buttom for 10 seconds and both lights should blink white and red.
Now you should be able to find it in your Bluetooth settings on your phone under the name “QCY-Q29 Pro”

Sound Quality
I’m amazed by the sound quality. The bass is really good and everything sounds like I’m listening to overear headphones. I tested the QCY Q29 Pro with some music in the Top 50 list of the World from Spotify. I really enjoyed listening to the different kind of songs in there. All the sounds were really good, the bass was really good like I said.
If you are more into podcasts, you are fine with the QCY Q29 Pro as well. The voices are clear and you are able to hear them loud and clear without noise. The loudness is also very good. It is not too loud but loud enough to enjoy it without getting permanent hearning damage.
Call Quality
The primary reason to own headphones is to listen to music or podcasts, but you can also make a phone call with then. I’ve had wires headphone with super bad audio quality when it comes to phone calls. The recently reviewed HBQ-i7 preformed good enough that we could have a conversation. The QCY Q29 Pro is preforming really well when it comes to phone calls. I tested this with someone I called without telling him I called with the QCY Q29 Pro. The person on the other did not notice any noise or bad sounds during the call.
I was standing at a busy metro station with a highway around 6 meters from me. No noises were heard or any other sounds that might make it difficult to have a conversation. This is a big plus of the QCY Q29 Pro!
Battery Life
Battery life with wiresless earbuds or headphones have been an issue in the past, but now they are good enough for me. The QCY Q29 Pro is able to play for at least 2 hours without charging. That is the most I was able to get out of it before I placed them back in the charging dock. The battery life indicator in Android gave 1 bubble left from the 5 it had. I’m happy with it although I think it can stil improve even more.
For me 2 hours is enough, my ride to work only lasts 1 hour and even with a traffic jam I will be there within 2,5 hours, which it should last from the website. After the ride I will place them into the charging case and everything is fine when I go back home. When I’m home I will charge my case when I go to sleep and the QCY Q29 Pro is ready to go again!
Conclusion
The QCY Q29 Pro is a very good performing wireless set of earbuds. The sound quality is good, the battery life good, but the form factor could have been better. The box feels premium but has its limitation when opening the lid. It always connects at the first try after set up but might take some time to get the connection to work the first time.
