How to use Stellar Data Recovery

There are different modules you can use. You can retrieve data from the iPhone itself, from an iCloud back-up and from an iTunes back-up. You may not have the eligible phone, so first let’s have a look at what iPhones and iOS versions are available.

What models are supported?

Stellar Data Recovery works with a lot of different iPhone models and supports a lot of iOS versions. Staller Data Recovery supports the iPhone 8 Plus, 8, 7 Plus, 7, 6S Plus, 6S, 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5c, 5, 4S and 4. If you are running on an older version of iOS, that is not a problem, these iOS versions are supported: 11.x 10.x, 9.x, 8.x, 7.x, 6.x & iTunes 12.x, 11.x.

That is a very big range of support which is a big plus of this software package.

How to use Stellar Data Recovery?

First of all, you need to install iTunes. Why? I have no idea but it does not work if iTunes is not installed. It gives an error message saying that you need to connect an iPhone. You can download iTunes here: Click!.

When you installed iTunes, you can connect the iPhone you want to scan for information and deleted items. When you click on “Data from iPhone” the software will start analyzing the iPhone. This process took around 10 to 15 minutes, which is pretty quick if you ask me to scan a complete phone on all its available files. AVG Anti-Virus found two threats while doing the scan. Stellar Software is trying to run two .bat script files, which potentially have a virus in them. I had to give an exception on both files to continue scanning, so keep that in mind. You might need to add two exceptions for two .bat files in order to get your iPhone scanned.

When that process is done, Stellar software will start scanning your iPhone and make a viewable list of files, which takes around 10-15 minutes again. This surprised me a lot! I thought scanning and arranging the information will take way longer than the 30 minutes it did now.

When analyzing and scanning is over, you can access the data. You will get a nice list of folders where you can browse through.

As you can see, Stellar Data Recovery found a lot of different folders, like:
– WhatsApp
– WhatsApp Images
– Camera Roll
– Call History
– And many others

Viber, WeChat or Kik which were not used on this test iPhone.

For example, if you select Camera Roll, it will show you all the videos and pictures found on the iPhone. This process may take a while, depending on how many videos and pictures are stored on the iPhone. You will get a nice overview to take a look, like this: (Normally there is a small preview, but I made those white to protect the privacy of the people in the pictures)

With the Call Hisotry tab, you can see all the incoming, outgoing and missed calls. This is information is showing at the bottom of the Call History tab and look like this:

Within all the records found, you can see to what contact the call was going or who made the call, how long it lasted and on what date it was. You can even find the Country of a few of those calls. For example, we live in the Netherlands and almost all calls were made from the Nederlands. There are a few blanks in there, those a probably in a different Country.

Here you can browse through the items and even show the deleted items only. This is done by 3 options you have in the right upper corner:

This not only makes it easier to read but also makes it way easier to filter for deleted photos or phone calls that you want to see.

In this example, I used the restore option “From iPhone”, there are two other options to recover data, and they work the same. For example, if you use the option to restore from iTunes, it will give you a list of the available back-ups. Just click the one you want to restore and let Stellar Data Recovery do the rest. Just wait till it is all sorted and it will give you a similar list as above. Very handy!

How to restore recoverd files?

Stellar Information made it super easy to restore the information that is recovered. There is an option in the home menu, “Import file to iPhone”. When you click this option, you will see the following screen:

In this screen, you can select files or folders that you want to transfer to your iPhone. When the file paths are selected, just click “Ok” and the Stellar software will do the rest. Sit back and relax while your lost files are being transferred to your iPhone again.
