Unboxing

The MECOOL M8S Pro+ comes in a white box with Android Media Player written on it. It makes it clear from the beginning what it inside. At the back we have some minor specifications.

Inside we find the MECOOL M8S Pro+ first with the manual. Underneath we have a HDMI cable, a European power adpater and a remote. Further more we have a pair of batteries which you can power up the remote with. Super easy so that you can start with the MECOOL M8S Pro+ right away.

Hardware & Design

The MECOOL M8S Pro+ is not too big. It is very lightweight, which I like about this TV box. The plastic design does not make it feel cheap. It is just lightweight and that makes it easy to place or stick somewhere.

All the connectors we need are on there. We have the HDMI and the USB port on there. If you want faster internet there is a RJ-45 port and of course the option for a SD card.

Software

The MECOOL M8S Pro+ runs on Android 7.1.1, which is good enough for me. Since it has the Google Play Store on it, you can download the apps that you like and make it your own personal smart TV. I think the most commonly used apps are pre-installed, like YouTube, but it is nice to get some games on it. Maybe you like Hulu or HBO? Just download it if they are available and you are good to go.

It is a very basic version of Android and there is a very basic User Interface. I hope they will improve it in the future, but I think we are stuck to this User Interface. If we compare it with the Xiaomi Mi Box 3, the User Interface is so much better. It gives it a whole other experience to use it. This is a big down side of the MECOOL M8S Pro+.

I like that Kodi is pre-installed. If you are familiar with Kodi, you know you can install all kind of add-ins and watch TV, sports or anything else on there. Really nice and something worth checking out.

Standard Applications

There are some pre-installed apps on the MECOOL M8S Pro+. We have for example YouTube and the Google Play Store pre-installed. This means you just have to plug it in and you can watch YouTube without installing anything!

Also Google Play Music is already on the MECOOL M8S Pro+. This means you can start listening to you favorite music after you plugged it in. No need to install Spotify or Deezer, just go with Google Play Music.

Features

There are a lot of programs pre-installed on the MECOOL M8S Pro+. I would like to highlight one, Kodi. Even if you have a mediabox that does not have Kodi pre-installed, please install it and explore the posibllities of this software package.

Kodi

If you are familiar with Kodi you know the possibilities. This is a software package that you can customize however you like it with all kind of add-ins. Some are not legal so pay attention to it before you install it!

You can install add-ins to watch TV channels, sport channels or what every you can think of. Make sure to check out the possibilities when you own a MECOOL M8S Pro+.

Conclusion

The MECOOL M8S Pro+ looks good, has everything you need. Batteries and remote included! Plug it into your TV and start playing around with Android. It is a very basic Android TV box and it misses some UI tune up. Kodi is pre-installed and if you are fimiliar with that, you can install all kind of add-ins on there to watch TV, series and sports matches.

For example the Xiaomi Mi Box 3 can do pretty much the same as the MECOOL M8S Pro+, but the User Interface looks way better. If you are into tech and know how to install Kodi Add-ins and don’t care about the User Interface? This is a good option for you.
