Review: Meizu EP52 Lite – Great Wireless Earbuds For Superb Price

There are some big benefits over the so-called “semi-wireless” headphones. First of all, the wires won’t tangle up. Just take them out of your pocket and start enjoying music. Second of all, if they fall out of your ear, you won’t have to go on your knees to look for them. Last but not least, the battery life is way better! Let’s have a look at the Meizu EP52 Lite!

Introduction & Specifications

Lite, does that mean that they are not good? No! The Meizu EP52 Lite proofs the opposite. These are some good quality earbuds, which are semi-wireless. There is a strong side, but also some points to improve on. The specifications are promising to say the least. Can this “lite” model compete with the Meizu EP51?

Unboxing

The box of the Meizu EP52 Lite is really thin and light. It feels like the box is empty! On the front, we see the logo and a photo of the product, which looks good if you ask me! On the back, we find the key features and specifications. All well designed and nicely shown.

You have to open the box at the bottom and slide out the case that holds the Meizu EP52 Lite. Be careful, underneath the Meizu EP52 Lite are the micro-USB cable, the 2 extra sets of eartips and a manual.

To take out the Meizu EP52 Lite, you have to open the flap that is on front. This uncovers a “secret space” that holds the rest of the cables.

Hardware & Design

These semi-wireless earbuds are super light! You almost won’t feel them when you are holding it, which is amazing! It is made from TPE which gives it a flexible feeling. The feather-like weight and the flexible design of the Meizu EP52 Lite make it a very comfortable set of earbuds.

The controls, which are on the right side, feel good and solid. The buttons are easily clickable and the micro-USB connector is well protected for water or sweat. The thicker part of the cable on the left side is just used for the battery.

The earbuds are small and they fit well. The back of the earbud is magnetic, which makes it convenient to store them in your pocket or backpack.

Do They Fit?

The earbuds are small and that makes it easy to fit them into my ears. If you have really big ears, take the L eartip size, which is included in the box. Overall, I think that the form factor of the Meizu EP52 Lite is good and there should be no problem for you to make it fit your ears.

How to connect?

Unlike completely wireless earbuds, the Meizu EP52 Lite have a connection to each other already. Just turn them on by pressing the middle button on the right controller for 3 to 5 seconds, and the Meizu EP52 Lite will turn on. Now all you have to do is go to your smartphone and connect to the “Meizu EP52 Lite” which should be in your Bluetooth list now.

Functions

The Meizu EP52 Lite has all the features we look for in semi-wireless earbuds. You can change the song, change the volume and answer or reject calls. What else can the Meizu EP52 Lite do? You can get Google Assistant with the press of a button. How? I’ll describe below.

Meizu EP52 Lite 5

Google Assistant/Siri

You can easily activate Google Assistant or Siri. All you have to do is press the middle button on the right controller twice. Wait for 2 to 3 seconds and you can ask whatever you want to Google. Super easy and this limits the times you have to take out your smartphone to call somebody for example.

Call Handeling

If you receive an incoming phone call, you can answer it by pressing the middle button once.
If you like to reject the incoming phone call, you have to long press the middle button.

Music Handeling

There are three buttons on the controller, a “+” button, a “-” button and a multi-functional button. Pressing the “+” button will increase the volume if you press it once.
You guessed it, by pressing the “-” button once, you will decrease the volume.
By pressing the middle button while listening to a song, you will pause it or play it again.

Don’t like the current song? Press the “+” button for +-2 to 3 seconds and you will go to the next song. If you really liked the previous song, press the “-” button for +-2 to 3 seconds.

Power On/Off

Powering on/off the Meizu EP52 Lite is easy, but not as easy as the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1. You have to press and hold the middle button for around 3 to 5 seconds and it will turn on or off. Easy, with just the press of a button.

IP Rating

The Meizu EP52 Lite has an IP rating of IPX5, which means it is water and sweat proof. Even with this rating, which is good for semi-wireless earbuds if you ask me, Meizu does not advice to use the Meizu EP52 Lite when it rains. I tried it and I had no problem using it while it rains or when I was sweating during an activity.

Clear Bluetooth Connections

If you want to clear the pairing records of the Meizu EP52 Lite, you have to press the “+” and “-” button simultaneously for +- 5 seconds. The LED light will flash red and blue and the beeper sounds are heard twice.

Sound Quality

This is the Lite version of course. I expected it to have less sound quality and overall perform a little bit less, but that is not the case at all! If the earbuds are placed right, the sound quality is amazing! The bass is good, the sounds are clear and it is just sharp as it should be. This is with all different genres or podcasts.

I’m surprised by the great sound quality that comes for this price and the “Lite” version.

Call Quality

I made a phone call inside, which was really good. It was clear, without any echo or something. The other end was able to hear me fine and I was able to hear the other end clearly, even when I was placed on speaker.

Outside is fine too! If there is a lot of wind, of course, this will be heard. Passing cars or walking outside is fine and you are heard clearly. This is a great point since we had some issues with other wireless earbuds while calling outside.

Luckily, just like the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1, the conversation is coming from both earbuds! That is way better than only via a single earbud with the completely wireless earbuds.

Battery Life

Completely charging the Meizu EP52 Lite takes only 1.5 hours. This is super short, but how long can the Meizu EP52 Lite last?

Meizu EP52 Lite 7

Well, if you are calling, you can last for 6 hours! Only listening to music? You are good for a stunning 8 hours! That is just crazy on a 1.5-hour charge. If the Meizu EP52 Lite is kept on standby, you can last for 200 hours.

Conclusion

What a great pair of earbuds. With the flexible design and the lightweight materials, it stands out and makes a great pair for the price you pay. The sound quality is good and I expected it to perform less. The battery life is amazing and you are able to listen to music for 8 hours straight! Charging goes lightning fast too, just 1 hour and 30 minutes and you are good to go for another 8 hours.

If you ask me for the best pair of sports earbuds, I think I will go with the Meizu EP52 Lite.
