Review: Alfawise A1 – Bulky With Good Sound Quality

We get a lot of wireless earbuds, like the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1, HBQ-i7, and the QCY Q29 Pro. They are just amazing. No wires, no worries! Let’s have a look if Alfawise can produce wireless earbuds as good as their Mechanical Keyboard or Gaming Mouse.

The feeling of freedom you get with the wireless earbuds is just great. With the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1, we just reviewed a new pair of wireless earbuds and we have another one! Alfawise already have a pair of wireless earbuds out, let’s see if they can compete with the models we reviewed before.

Unboxing

The box itself is black with an image of the Alfawise A1 on front. On the back of the box, we find the specifications, which are pretty good.

Inside the box, we find the two earbuds and the case packed separately. Unfortunately, my box got damaged during shipment, but the earbuds and the case are fine. Last but not least we find the instruction manual. Here we find a short manual on how to operate the Alfawise A1.

Hardware & Design

The design made me think of the QCY Q29 Pro. It is a bit bulky and it sticks out more than the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1 for example. The materials used feel good and solid, which gives it a more premium feeling for the price you paid.

The button is placed on the outside, of course, but it gives more pressure on the inner-ear canal when pressing it, which can be painful sometimes.

The Charging Case

Alfawise provided a charging case, which is a must-have with wireless earbuds if you ask me. There is a button which you have to click to open it, which sometimes takes a bit more pressure than I hoped. The earbuds fit in the case easily and the case overall feels very solid.

In the case, we also find the battery capacity tracker. These are 4 small white LED lights. Each LED light equals 25% battery capacity of the case. If only 2 lights are on, you have between 50% and 25% battery left in the charging case. This might not be the most accurate reading, but it is effective and everybody understands it.

Do They Fit?

The design is a bit bulkier then I hoped. It sticks out more if we compare it to the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1. This is just a design thing and for me, that is not a problem. I do prefer a flatter design, but it works and the sound quality is good of the Alfawise A1.

The button is located on the outside of the earbuds and when you press the button, there will be more pressure on the inside of you ear-canal which might become painful. I hope the manufactures of wireless earbuds will pay attention to this and stop putting pressure on that point.

How to connect?

First, you have to turn them both on by pressing the button on each earbud for around 2-3 seconds. You will get feedback that tells you the earbuds are turned on. Now the earbuds will make the connection with each other automatically.

All you have to do is wait for a few seconds until that process is done and look in the Bluetooth settings of your smartphone for “A1”. That is the name it will be listed with. Click on “A1” and the connection is made. Enjoy listening to the Alfawise A1!

Functions

With wired earbuds, you are able to control the volume and the music with a controller on the cable. This, of course, is not possible with wireless earbuds since they don’t have wires. Almost all the brands are able to give you some of the controls via the multi-functional button on the earbuds. How does it work on the Alfawise A1?

Call Handeling

There is only one button on the Alfawise A1, so controlling your calls is pretty simple.
If you get a phone call, just press the button once to answer the call. If you are in a call, press it again once to hang up the call.
Don’t want to answer the call? Hold the button for 2 seconds and it will reject the incoming call. Redialing is easy too, double-click the button and you will redial the last number.

Music Handeling

There is only one button on each earbud and that limits the possible controls.

When you press the button once, you will play the current song. Press it again once and the music will continue.

Power On/Off

Powering on/off is easy with the Alfawise A1. Just the button for 2-3 seconds and it will turn on.
Turning off takes a little longer, you have to press the button for 5 seconds at least. The Alfawise A1 will tell you when it will turn on or off.

Sound Quality

Looking at just the sound quality, I must say I’m reasonably happy with the Alfawise A1. The bass is good and the overall quality is acceptable, but not the best of the best. All the genres I listened to with the Alfawise A1 sounded good and they used different aspects of the Alfawise A1. For example, Hip-Hop had a big benefit of the bass that was in there as well as Hardstyle/Hardcore. If you listen to Classical music, the overall quality is a bit softer, but that is very pleasant to listen to. It doesn’t matter what genre you prefer, the Alfawise A1 can give you an acceptable quality of music.

Call Quality

Calling with wireless earbuds are just great. No wires, no smartphone in hand, just talk and nobody will know you are calling! With the Alfawise A1, you can make a phone call too, but you have to do it inside. Outside is too much noise and when, for example, a car drives by, the noise is enormous. It is like you are in a cheering stadium full of people.

Inside is fine and you can easily have a phone call when there is no wind or passing cars.

There is another “downside”. I get a lot of questions about the phone conversation coming only from one earbud. This is also the case with the Alfawise A1. If you really want it to come from both, you have to get the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1.

Battery Life

With the Alfawise A1, you are able to use the earbuds for around 2.5 to 3.5 hours. This might not be the longest play time, but with the charging case, you are able to charge them around 4 to 5 times completely.

This makes the battery life of the earbuds itself not special but with the charging case, it comes to a decent and acceptable level. Charging the case takes around 1.5 hours and to completely charge the earbuds with the case you need around 1 hour.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a budget pair of well-working earbuds, the Alfawise A1 might be the one for you. The sound quality is acceptable and the battery life is, with the charging case, good too. You can comfortably listen to different genres and charge the earbuds up to 5 times with the charging case!

The design is a bit bulkier if we compare it to the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1 for example, but the overall sound quality is higher. Calling with the Alfawise A1 is something you can only do when you are inside, outside is too noisy and this will have a big impact on your conversation.

Overall I’m happy with the Alfawise A1 and, if you are on a budget, these are some great pair of completely wireless earbuds to buy.
