Techrvw tested several SD cards, and this is the Samsung EVO SD Card. Will this SD card bring the promised performance?

The packaging of the Samsung EVO SD Card is good. There is not too much plastic, it is clear, and there is enough information on it (if you can read it). Hardware & Design

Just as Cooltoday, Samsung is not allowed to change the format size of the SD card, that is the same for all brands. The design (looks) are changeable, and Samsung chooses a simple but very recognizable design. We clearly see the brand name, the model, and the speed class on the small SD card.

There are different classes with different read and write speed. The SD Card Association keeps updating this and improving the performance of the SD Cards. So, what are the classes and what do they mean? Let’s have a look at the different SD Card classes and the meaning of those classes.

SD Card Benchmark Test

A website, especially if it is not a big company like Samsung, can promise high speed in writing and reading. Can they deliver the promised speed? Do SD cards from China have the same storage amount? Let’s see if this SD Card has the same storage amount as advertised. I used an app, and this app will write an 8GB file on the SD card when the writing speed is tested, this app will read the 8GB file. Both rates are measured and shown in the test results below. (All tests are run on a Xiaomi Pocophone F1)

Write Performance

We saw that the Cooltoday SD Card was performing better in our benchmark test then advertised. Can Samsung, a bigger company, do the same or even better? On the package, as seen above, we see that the Samsung Evo SD Card should reach around 20MB/s write speed. In our benchmark test, we reach a higher result! We get an amazing 31MB/s! This is a 55% higher score then advertised.

Read Performance

The read performance is essential on how fast you are able to access to stored data. On the packaging, they advertise that 95MB/s should be possible. In the benchmark test, we get a great result of 81MB/s. Not the maximum score, but for this price and coming from China, we are pleased with the results.

Available Storage

If you buy a hard disk, solid state disk or USB drive, you want as much storage as possible. Sometimes, you see that the available storage is significantly lower then you bought. In the Cooltoday SD Card, we were missing 0.3GB, which is acceptable. For the Samsung EVO SD Card, we expected the same, but we got 32GB of available storage! 100% of the advertised storage is available for the user. This is a great score, and we rarely see a 100% available rate.

Write Or Read? What Do I Need?

Conclusion

Our expectations were higher of the Samsung EVO SD Card. Samsung is a more prominent company, so we expected them to outperform the given numbers, or at least provide a solid performance, but were they able to do so? Yes! The Samsung EVO SD Card from China proves to be a reliable, good performing, and quick SD card.

In the write test, they over delivered by 55%, which is just mind-blowing. The read test did not get the maximum score, but a score of 81MB/s is still a result to be proud of. Speaking of the available size, we got a 100% score! We’ve never seen that before, and a 100% available storage rate is rare. The Samsung EVO SD Card is a great, budget option to enlarge your internal storage.
