GoComma i12 Review – Apple AirPods For Android WITH Touch!

We had the HBQ-i7, which were a almost perfect clone of the Apple AirPods. Now, GoComma tries to make an even better copy. They introduced the GoComma i12. They look really like the Apple AirPods and they even have touch control like the real AirPods! Do they sound as good? Let’s have a look!

Introduction & Specifications

Competing with the Apple AirPods is hard. The AirPods from Apple are great earbuds and will be hard to beat. GoComma is selling the i12 and these might be the closest to the perfect copy of the Apple AirPods. The specifications are good and the battery time is average to good. Adding the touch controls make the GoComma i12 a great option if you are looking for cheap clones.

Unboxing

The GoComma i12 comes in a nice, blue box. There is a picture on the front which makes it clear what’s inside. On the back is another photo with the charging case and the lightning power cord and on the inside, we find the bare minimum. Of course, the AirPods and the charging case are inside. We also find a small lightning cable and some minor instructions. There is no excessive use of plastic, which is a good thing and I like the looks of the packaging.

Hardware & Design

If we just compare the looks of the earbuds, I must say that the GoComma i12 is a really good copy of the Apple AirPods. At the bottom, you can see the charging pads, which is fine by me. The GoComma i12 looks like a solid pair of earbuds and they feel like that too. Even though they are made out of plastic and they are really light, they feel pretty solid.

The touch part reacts good and reacts pretty quick too. Within half a second, your touch is processed by the device (in my case the Xiaomi Pocophone F1). The reaction time, the solid but light feeling and the charging case, make it feel and look like the real deal even though they are way cheaper clones!

Charging Case

For me, the charging case looks just like the Apple AirPods charging case. There is a small button on the back to activate the charge function. At the bottom, we have the lightning charging port. The lid opens fine but feels a bit loose. When you tilt the charging case, it will close really easily, which is somewhat annoying. On the real Apple AirPods, this feels more solid. Nevertheless, this is a great Apple AirPods Alternative.

When you are charging the earbuds with the charging case, there is a LED light which will be red flickering. When the earbuds are fully charged, there will be a blue LED light burning. Clear and easy to see the state of the earbuds.

Do They Fit?

Well, I had this with the HBQ-i7 and also with the GoComma i12. They fit, they sit tight bit it feels like they can fall out of your ear in a second. This is not the case! The GoComma i12 earbuds are staying right where you want them to be. It doesn’t matter if you are running, walking or jumping, they will not fall out of your ears.

The feeling of them being loose and that they can fall out every second is a bit annoying, but you get used to it. The Xiaomi AirDots feel more secure in that way, those are more in-ear while the GoComma i12 does not go in that deep.

How To Connect?

Like the Xiaomi AirDots, it is really easy to connect the GoComma i12 to your smartphone. When you take the earbuds out of the charging case, they will turn on automatically. When they are turned on, they connect to each other without any action from you! Really easy. Now, all you have to do is go to your BlueTooth settings and connect your smartphone or other devices to the “i12”. That’s it! You are connected and ready to listen to music or watch your movie.

Functions

Pausing or playing a song is not enough anymore. We want and need more functions and actions on the earbuds. The GoComma i12 has more to offer than just one simple action. You can change songs, raise or lower the volume and, of course, handle the phone calls. How does it work? Let’s have a look at the touch actions with the GoComma i12.

Call Handling

When you receive a call, you press once to accept the call. Done with the call? Tap the touch part once and you stop the call.
If you don’t want to accept the call, you have to hold the touch part for 2 to 3 seconds and the call will be declined.

The basic operations are there and I like that. I could not find how to mute the microphone when using the GoComma i12, which would have been a handy feature.

Music Handling

Handling music is one of the key actions you will use with your GoComma i12. With one tap on the touch part (does not matter if it is left or right) you can pause or play the current song.
If you like the volume to be higher, you have to touch twice on the right side.
If you want the volume to be lower, you have to touch twice on the left side.
Don’t like this song? Touch three times on the right side to switch to the next song.
Want to listen to the last song? Tap three times on the left side to go to the previous song.

Actions
1 TapPause/Play
2 Tap (Right)Increase Volume
2 Tap (Left)Decrease Volume
3 Tap (Right)Next Song
3 Tap (Left)Previous Song

With the GoComma i12, you have full control over your music. No need to take out your smartphone to lower the volume or skip a song. Great job!

Power On/Off

When you take the earbuds out of the charging case, they will turn on automatically. Easy as that! They connect to each other automatically too.
You can turn them off or on by pressing the touch part for 3 to 5 seconds. This manual action is never required since the earbuds turn on and off automatically.

AI Assistant

You can use your AI Assistant with the GoComma i12 as well! Tap the touch part once and hold for the second touch. This will summon your AI Assistant. In my case, in combination with the Xiaomi Pocophone F1, you get the Google Assistant.

Sound Quality

My expectations from products which are cloned are not always super high. The HBQ-i7 did good, but I was not blown away. The GoComma i12 is a newer version and should be better, right?

The sound coming from the earbuds is average and maybe a bit flat and lifeless. For the price, it is acceptable, but there are better options. BUT, if you use an equalizer, like this one, you can drastically increase the sound quality. With the equalizer, the quality becomes really good and I’m really happy with it. Without the equalizer, I would give the sound quality a 6 and with the equalizer, it is as high as an 8! You can still hear that it is not the same quality as the Bose QC35 for example, but we cannot expect that.

Call Quality

When you make a phone call with the GoComma i12, you are able to hear the other person and, to be honest, it sounds fine for me too. There is a lot of background noise coming through the microphone of the GoComma i12 which makes it a bit more annoying for the other person. Still, you are perfectly fine to have a casual phone call with these pair of wireless earbuds.

What I really like is that GoComma is using both earbuds while making a phone call. You hear the conversation through both earbuds and this makes it so much better. A lot of earbuds, like the Xiaomi AirDots, are only using one and this is just a shame.

Battery Life

This is a vital part of wireless earbuds if you ask me. Using the GoComma i12, I was able to get around 3 to 4 hours of music time, which is fine but not the best I’ve seen. With the battery case, of course, you can easily extend this while not using them, but if you are on a long bus trip or a flight, the playtime is too short.

With a fully charged case, you can charge the earbuds twice and it takes around 1.5 to 2.5 hours before they are completely charged. For the price, it is OK, but battery wise, there are better pairs.

Conclusion

The GoComma i12 is one of the best Apple AirPods clones I’ve seen so far. The looks, the functionality, the sound quality, and the charging case are almost an exact copy and it works great! The quality of the sound is average to good and gets a real boost when using an equalizer. The touch-sensitive control works really good, better than expected. This surprised me, most of the times, like the Xiaomi AirDots, the touch-control does not work that well at all.

With the battery life of several (3 to 4) hours and being able to charge the earbuds within the charging case 2 times makes it an average lasting pair of wireless earbuds. If you are looking for a pair of Apple AirPods alternatives, this is a great pair to consider.
