QCY T7 Review – Cheap, Wireless, Very Decent, QCY Did It Again.

The 3.5mm jack is going away. Some phones keep them, but we have to face it, it is going away. If you are looking for affordable wireless earbuds, the QCY T7 might be a good option for you. These Apple AirPod like earbuds are just under 20 euros and they just work! We’ve had QCY products before, like the QCY T9S, or the QCY Q29 Pro, and the quality is really good. Can QCY pull it off with the QCY T7 again? Let’s find out!

Introduction & Specifications

Personally, I’m a huge fan of wireless earbuds. I’ve had several wireless earbuds and I haven’t used a wired pair in maybe over 1 or 2 years. Recently we reviewed the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, which are good, but expensive. Now with the QCY T7, we have an affordable pair of earbuds that look the same. Can they perform the same and deliver the same quality? If we look at the specifications, I think they may are able to do that!

Unboxing

The front of the box is colorful. The sleeve had a photo of the charging case with the earbuds on front and the specifications of them on the back. When taking off the colorful sleeve, you are left with a plain, brown box. We’ve seen this with other QCY products before. They are sticking to the packing style, just like BlitzWolf has its own style of packaging.

Inside the box, we see the QCY T7 charging case right away. It is well protected with some foam around it. Below the charging case with the QCY T7 earbuds, we find a compartment with the charging cable (USB-C) and the manual. Simple packaging, no useless waste of plastic or waste of space. I like it!

Hardware & Design

For this price, we can not expect a super premium feeling, but we’ve seen companies achieve it anyway. Can QCY do the same? The lid, the charging port, and the earbuds feel really good. Let’s have a look at the hardware and build quality of the QCY T7.

Charging Case

An important piece of the QCY T7. This charging case packs a 380mAh battery inside and can charge the earbuds for up to 4 times! With a playtime of around 3.5 hours, you have around 15 hours of playtime on a single charge. How amazing is that? The build quality is good, the lid opens easily and feels snappy, and the earbuds fit perfectly. You do feel that it is a pair of earbuds that fall in the cheaper price range, but it is not bad at all. It is a bit lighter if we compare it to the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, and I kind of like that to be honest. The button on the front is easily clickable and doesn’t stick out much so you won’t accidentally reset them when they are in your pocket. Smart design moves from QCY.

EarBuds

The QCY T7 look like the Apple AirPods and the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, and probably many others. I like the longer design of the QCY T7, just as the two mentioned earlier, but that is a personal taste. The microphone at the bottom is well placed and, we will discuss it later, works pretty well. There is also wear detection on the QCY T7, which will automatically pause your music when you take an earbud out. The touch panel on both earbuds are well integrated into the design of the earbuds. You can easily tap them without putting too much pressure on your inner ear canal. With the low pressure, you can easily wear the QCY T7 for hours in a row.

Functions

There are many brands that released earbuds. Wireless is popular, and I’m a huge fan of it. No more wires for me! To stand out in this crowded market, you need a good price and some good features. Can the QCY T7 offer something that others can not?

Power On/Off

This is easy. As you probably guessed it, the QCY T7 earbuds are turning on automatically when you open the lid and take out the earbuds. We’ve seen this process several times with wireless earbuds and it is just so easy. No need to press the touch panel for seconds, just take them out and by the time you have them in your ears, they are powered on and connected. Lovely experience.

How To Connect

Connecting the QCY T7 is an easy process. We saw the automatic connection on the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, but that is not available on the QCY T7. For this price, I don’t expect it to be on there.

All you have to do is open the case, place the earbuds in your ears, and search for “QCY T7” in the BlueTooth settings of your smartphone. Connect to that entry and you are done! The earbuds make a connection with each other automatically. After you pressed it in the settings, the connection is made within a second or two and you are ready to listen to some music or podcasts.

Music Controls

Just like the Xiaomi, the controls of the QCY T7 are simple, but they work. You can pause and play music, activate the voice assistant, and answer/decline calls. How?

QCY T7 29

Press the button twice (left or right) to pause/play the music.
If you want to skip forward, you have to touch and hold (left or right) for two seconds. This will skip you to the next track.
In need of an assistant? Tapping the touch panel three times to activate it. I tested this on my Xiaomi Pocophone F1 and it worked like a charm with Google Assistant.

Phonecall Controls

Getting a phone call while listening to music. You don’t have to take out your smartphone to answer. With the QCY T7, you are able to make phone calls via both earbuds.

If you get an incoming call, you can answer it by tapping the touch panel twice (left or right).
Not in the mood for a phone call? Touch and hold the touch panel (left or right) for one second to ignore the call.

Features

Can the QCY T7 compete with other wireless earbuds? Do they offer some unique features? I think the price by itself is a unique feature and for that reason alone it might be worth giving it a shot. Let’s see if the battery life and the quality actually makes a difference too.

Wear Detection

A really handy feature is the Wear Detection of the QCY T7. There is a small sensor on the inside of the earbuds that will detect if you are wearing them or if you took one out. If you take one out, the music or podcast will automatically pause. No need to tap the side twice or something like that. Just take out the earbud and the music is paused. When you place it back into your ear, the music will start playing automatically again. Really love this feature.

You do need to keep your earbuds clean for this feature to work. If they are dirty and the sensor is covered, it will not detect if you are wearing it or if you take it out.

Battery Life

The QCY T7 comes with a charging case, this means that when you are done listening to the music and store the earbuds away, they will be charged and ready to go for the next time. The case offers 380mAh battery power, which means it can charge the earbuds around 4 times! This means that you can listen to music for around 17 hours with a single charge of 2 hours.

When the earbuds are fully charged, you can listen to music for around 3 to 3.5 hours on 70% volume. Personally, this is a good score. The earbuds are charged within 1.5 hours after placing them into the charging case. Pretty quick. After that, you are ready for another 3.5 hours of listening to your favorite band or artist.

Noise Cancelling?

Unfortunately, the QCY T7 does not offer Active Noise Cancelling. For this price, that is no big deal. I have it on my Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, but it doesn’t do that much to be honest. I’m glad that the price is low and that QCY left it out.

There is some noise-canceling done when making phone calls. When I walked next to a bust road where several cars passed me, the other person described it as a space like sound, just like the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, but softer. (Which is a good thing!) So the cheaper QCY T7 is doing a better job at canceling passing cars than the expensive Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2. This means that the ENC (Environmental Noise Canceling) is working better!

Sound Quality

What can we expect from a pair of earbuds that cost less than 20 euros? Normally not much, but this is QCY. They have made some very decent earbuds for an affordable price before, like the QCY Q29 Pro.

With the QCY T7, the quality of the audio is acceptable, but not outstanding. The bass is there, but it is on the soft side. The volume is good, and even when you are walking outside or in the wind, the quality of the audio is good. For this price range, I’m really happy with the quality. Don’t expect the best audio quality or the deepest bass or the purest sound. This is a pair of wireless earbuds that you can use for everyday life, like transport to your work or walking outside.

Call Quality

Just like the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2, there is some sort of Noise Canceling done when having a phone call. That is a great thing if it works. And on the QCY T7, it works better if we compare it to the Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2.

Besides that, my own voice is a bit dull. You can still hear me and have a normal conversation, but it is not as crisp as others. Again, looking at the price of the QCY T7, this is acceptable, but something to notice. If you plan to use it to make phone calls all the time, these might not be the pair of earbuds for you. This is when calling outside.

When you are making phone calls inside, it is a different story. The dull sound becomes more clear and there is no background noise (of course) and that makes the phone conversation a whole lot better. I would use to have casual conversations with friends and family, but on business calls, I will take my Bose QC35.

Voice Assistants

Tapping the touch panel on the left or right earbud will activate the voice assistant. In my case, that is Google Assistant. Siri, Amazon Alexa, and Xiaoai are also available when using the Voice Assistant function. Tapping it activates it pretty quickly and Google is taking my commands pretty good. The microphone works well, it is just a bit dull with making phone calls. For Google Assistant it works fine and I actually like to use it. It brings down the number of times I take my phone out of my pocket.

Conclusion

The QCY T7, this is a very affordable pair of wireless earbuds. For just under 20 euros you get an Apple AirPod like pair of earbuds that work really well. The touch panels on the side work and you don’t have to smack it really hard, like the more expensive Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2. The battery life is good and you can charge it with the USB-C connector at the bottom.

The only downside is the quality when making phone calls outside. This makes the passing cars and background noises sound weird and it makes your voice dull. Inside calls are fine and you can absolutely have a normal conversation using the QCY T7 indoors. The quality of the sound is acceptable, but it is not the best out there. Of course, this is reflected in the price and for this price, I feel like it is very decent.

Do I recommend this? Absolutely! This is a great pair of wireless earbuds to have around and use for your daily walks or indoors to watch a movie. I’m personally really happy and considering selling my Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro 2 and keep the QCY T7.
