Unboxing
The box of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is a bit boring, but not ugly. Both earbuds are displayed on the front, and on the back we find some specifications. The design on the front is nice and it must represent sound waves coming from the earbuds.
If we open the box, first we see the charging case, and the 7! pair of extra earbud tips. With the extra earbud tips you can make the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro fit on every pair of ears.
Underneath the charging case and the earbud tips, we find the USB-C charging cable and the guides. Nothing special, no extra plastic where it is not needed. A good, compact, and well designed box.
Hardware & Design
When opening the box, the first thing we saw was the charging case. The charging case is pretty big for the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro. You can charge your earbuds 4 to 5 times with it, that explains the size of the charging case.
The earbuds looked a bit big and bulky, but when you actually wear them, they are not that big at all. They fit your ear well and they don’t stick out that much like I expected. On the sides of the earbuds, the shiny part is the touch part. We will talk about that feature later.
Charging Case
Like I said before, the charging case is a little bit bigger if we compare it to other brands. It is not a bad thing, at least you can charge your earbuds more often. Because of the size of the charging case, there is more weight to it as well. That gives it a more premium and “expensive” feeling.

The top opens easily, but it still feels solid and durable. The button on the side feels solid and durable as well. It still is easy to press, but not too easy that it will be pressed by mistake. The built quality of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is very good.
EarBuds
The earbuds have the classic long design. Usually earbuds become smaller and smaller, like the Google Pixel A series, but Xiaomi gave this the classic Apple AirPods look. I don’t think this is ugly, but that is a personal preference. I use the Google Pixel A series too and I love the design of that too. With this design, the microphone might even be better positioned for voice calls or commands.
The shiny part on the earbuds is the touch part. With the touch part you can call the voice assistant, pause/play the music, or change the Noise Canceling settings. This works pretty well and the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro reacts every single time I try to pause or play the music. Maybe once, when I had wet fingers, it reacted by the second or third try.
On every earbud, there are two microphones. The one at the bottom is the primary microphone, and near the touch area is the secondary microphone. This longer design now has its benefit that the primary microphone is closer to your mouth and captures the sounds even better. We will talk about how good or bad the microphones are later on.
Make the connection
To connect the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro to your smartphone, you need to have both the earbuds in the charging case. While they are in there, you need to press and hold the button for +-2 seconds until the light on the front starts flashing. When the flashing starts, they are in “pair” mode.
If you go to the Bluetooth settings of your phone now, you should be able to find the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro in the pair options. Simply press the Xiaomi entry now, and the connection will be made.
If there is a code needed to make the connection, you should enter “0000” as the default code.
Functions
Xiaomi has some nice features on the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro. Besides the standard features, we will talk about Noise Canceling, which is available on this pair! We will also talk about the sound quality and the call quality. Which is very important for this price.
Turn on/off
Turning the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro on and off is super easy. We see this with almost all wireless earbuds and I love how simple it is. Just take the earbuds out of the charging case and they turn on. When you place them back in the charging case, they will turn off automatically. When you take them out of the case, they also make the connection to the last Bluetooth device as well.
Control music
If we just look at the controls on the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro, I think it is pretty basic and maybe even limited. Of course you can pause and play a song, but you can not change the volume or skip to the next song or go to the previous one.

When you are not able to go to the next or previous song, you always have to take out your phone, and that is a pretty big downside to me. Not being able to change to volume is a nice thing to have, but I can live without it. Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is a bit limited in this aspect.
Control phone calls
If you are listening to your favorite artist or podcast and you receive an incoming phone call, you can answer that by pressing either one of the earbuds twice. This will automatically answer the phone call.
Voice Assistant
If you wear both earbuds, you can press the left earbud twice to activate your Voice Assistant. In my case that is the Google Assistant from the Google Pixel 5. You might need to give extra permissions to allow this, but for me in Android it worked by default.
Features
Besides the Voice Assistant, and pausing the music, the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro has more to offer. Let’s dive into the features and see how good the quality of outside calling is with this pair of earbuds.
Sound quality
Sound is, of course, very important to wireless earbuds. The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro has very good sound quality. There is a good bass in it, but not too much. The high and low tones are well presented and the volume can go quite high without losing sound quality.
Of course, the louder the music is, the more background noise you will get. But this only happens when the sound is put to the maximum. Even on the highest volume, with the extra background noise, the sound stays pretty good. I tried this on different genres, like hardcore, Hip-Hop, classic, but also podcasts. Every genre sounds really well and like you are wearing over-ear headphones.
Call quality
What I usually see with the cheaper headphones, is that the sound quality when calling is really bad. The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is a bit more expensive and you definitely see that in the results of the call. I walked outside, next to a busy road with cars, and some mild wind. Even then your voice will be transferred perfectly fine. Only when you speak, the other person might hear some very soft background noise from the wind or when a car passes. When you are not talking, no background noise is coming through.
Xiaomi made a big step with calling on wireless earbuds. In the past I always had doubts if the quality will ever be good enough, but this is a big step in the right direction. If I had to make a call outside to a business partner, I would be more than happy to use the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro for the phone call.
IP Rating
Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro does not have an IP rating. If you walk outside in the rain, sweat heavily during your workout, or in a very moist environment, you have to be careful with the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro.
I have the feeling that some minor rain, or a good workout should not break the pair, but Xiaomi saved money by not requesting the official IP Rating.

Noise canceling
We don’t see it that often that Noise Canceling is available on a wireless pair of earbuds. Usually they are too small, or it is too expensive to put it on the earbuds. It is available on the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro, even with different modes!
You can pick one of the following Noise Canceling modes;
It works, and it works well! If you walk outside with Noise Canceling on, you will get a lot of wind on the microphones. I highly suggest either turn it off, or put it on Wind Mode. When using the Wind Mode, all the wind is gone and you can easily listen to music in that mode. A very good feature on this pair of wireless earbuds.
Wireless Charging
You can wirelessly charge the charging case of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro. A nice and welcome feature again. You don’t have to play around with the USB-C cable, just place it on a wireless charging pad and you don’t have to worry about the battery anymore.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro is a very nice pair of wireless earbuds. They fit well, there are a lot of earbud tips so you can make them fit however you like, they have good features, but they are missing some too. Maybe the price is too high for some, but with functions like Noise Canceling and Voice Assistant, I’m happy with the price tag.
The charging case feels solid and durable. It is a bit more heavy than I usually see in charging cases, but that gives it a more premium feeling too. On a fully charged case, you can charge the earbuds around 5 to 6 times! That is a great score and gives the earbuds around 30 hours of active usage time.
Unfortunately, the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro does miss some features like skipping to the next song or going back a song and changing the volume. The managing song is something I use a lot on my Google Pixel A series earbuds, and I do miss that on this pair.
The sound and call quality is surprisingly good and make up for the missing features. You can easily have a phone call outside next to a busy road without the other person hearing the cars. The sound is good, there is a good bass, but it is not too heavy. You can crank up the volume and still keep a decent level of sound quality, although it lets through some noise when it is louder.
In general I’m really happy with the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Pro. The price is definitely worth it and I would recommend this pair of earbuds to people without a doubt.
